The Nissan Armada 2015 is quite an interesting SUV that is not that much different than the previous model, with the biggest additions being better wheel design, revised interior trim, especially at the doors and some extra features. We are faced with a full-size SUV that is billed as a wonderful option for a family, although this is not 100% correct as there are some problems that exist with the SUV.
Obviously from the specs, the big problem is that we are talking about a really heavyweight device. The buyers that want to tow trailers and boats do want to consider the 2015 Nissan Armada as it allows just that and carrying around a full family thanks to the model being an 8 seater.
Armada features a truck-type frame design that is body-on, something similar to the Nissan Titan, combined with a strong engine that allows towing around 9,000 pounds, which is pretty impressive. The big problem is that we are faced with a ride that is quite stiff and fuel economy is poor. We also have really low cargo capacity.
Options, Body Styles And Trim Levels
The 2015 Nissan Armada comes in 3 trim levels:
- SV – the base model
- SL – the midrange model
- Platinum – the top model
Every trim level offers a choice between 4WD and 2WD with front traction. Based on a seating configuration, you can opt for 8 or 7 seats in the SUV. The equipment brought in is quite interesting, featuring 18 inch wheels, rear parking sensors, rear climate control, automatic climate control, running boards, cloth upholstery and so much more.
Armada SL adds 20 inch wheels, roof rack, auto leveling rear air suspension, keyless entry, leather upholstery and keyless ignition. Optionals include others like rear seat DVD system and sunroof. Platinum models will include 20 inch chromed alloy wheels, dual power folding mirrors, memory functions for seats, nagication system and a 7 inch touchscreen display.
Nissan Armada Performance
The engine under the hood is a V8 5.6 liter model that offers 318 hp. The gearbox is 5 speed automatic and is the only option available. Rear wheel drive and four wheel drive can be considered.
A problem with the 2015 Nissan Armada is that the fuel economy is not that great, with a combined rating of 15 miles per gallon. This is something that many are not going to appreciate.
The good news is that safety features are quite good, including stability control, traction control, antilock disc brakes, full length side curtain airbags, front seat active head restraints and even side-impact airbags. Rear parking sensors are standard and front parking sensors will be available at the SUV Platinum level.
Special Features And Interior Design
The cabin is definitely well-put together and attractive. Controls and gauges are arranged intuitively and logically and the Platinum model does include so many buttons you will want to get used to. Seat comfort is really good and optional twin captain’s chairs are available. The only problem is that we are a little short on the legroom as we compare to other SUVs that are third rows.
We can say that driving this SUV is no surprise if you know old school SUVs. The engine offers a performance that is quite beefy and the acceleration is brisk. The real problem is definitely the very bad fuel economy. Ride quality will normally be good when the roads are pristine but you will surely have some problems when you drive on pavement that is broken.
